“You’re no Van Gogh.”

the artist’s father

I was born to Chinese immigrants in Toronto in 1976 and moved to the Bay Area when I was 10. After graduating from University of California Santa Cruz with a Bachelor’s in art in 1998, I moved to San Francisco where I have lived since, now with my wife and two children in the outer sunset. I am an administrative assistant at city’s largest employer besides the city itself, where I anticipate retiring for a reasonable pension.

Painting public spaces lets me commemorate my experience as a nobody, an unseen voyeur to our commonality. I share these pieces with my unwitting collaborators—the architects, business owners, brick and tile layers, municipal city planners, graffiti artists, and ultimately the pedestrian themself, unaware of their implication herein, leaving their mark with only footsteps, as if buffering the streets with the polish of time.
