I was born to Chinese immigrants in Toronto in 1976 and moved to the California Bay Area when I was 10. After graduating from University of California Santa Cruz with a Bachelor’s in Art in 1998, I moved to San Francisco where I have lived since, now with my wife and two children in the Outer Sunset. I am an administrator at the city’s largest employer besides itself, where I anticipate retiring for a reasonable pension.

Painting public spaces provides me a way to commemorate my experience as a no one, someone, or everyone, a compulsive voyeur to our commonality. If the prosaic is sacred, I am humbled to be its curious inquisitor.
I share this work with my unwitting collaborators—the architects, business owners, municipal planners, brick and tile layers, graffiti artists and other gleeful defacers, and ultimately the pedestrian themself, leaving their mark upon the city with only footsteps, as if buffering the streets with the polish of time.

All paintings are acrylic on paper (exclusively Arches 140 hot press) with mixed-media collage elements.
